Galletto, aka Orvieto, aka Rooster dinnerware, originated in the 13th century in Orvieto, a charming medieval city in Umbria whose role in the rise and popularity of Italian pottery can hardly be overestimated.
Over the centuries, Orvieto passed the baton to Deruta as a major production center of fine ceramics. Galletto has been thriving in the good care of Deruta artisans, with new colors - red and blue - added to the original medieval green.

L'Antica Deruta is a family-owned business founded by Alviero Moretti in the fifties. He was an innovator, determined to make pottery that, while very much inspired by traditional designs, would be more suitable to modern lifestyle and artistic sensibility. While working on his own collections, Alviero collaborated with prominent Italian painters and sculptors, effectively promoting ceramics as a contemporary art medium.
L'Antica Deruta is now run by Alviero Moretti's children, with passion and dedication.
